Developer Quark has officially announced the long-awaited QuarkXPress 9, updating its flagship publication set. Software has traditionally been used to create layouts for print and Web content, but in version 9 Quark is focusing on Smartphones and tablets, especially the iPad. For latest QuarkXPress now includes App Studio, a component that is used to produce native iPad apps. Users can repackage existing content or create apps from whole cloth.
The new tool to export ePub, support a wider range of platforms, including, but not limited to iBooks, Kindle and nook. Back-this is added the Reflow view, which controls the layout so that they appear properly in any format that reflows. Platform uniquely supports v9 is a Blio eReader, which works in Windows, Android, or iOS.
More utility additions to the suite include a cloning utility, new bullets and numbering system and "conditional" styles that streamline content automatically based on a set of rules. Balloons move fields and groups along with the text and ImageGrid option allows people to quickly import and grid Graphics. Similarly, Linkster aims to break the link or relink text boxes or stories. Story editor opens Word processor type of the draft text.
QuarkXPress 8 is scheduled to ship in April. The full set will cost $ 799, while updating from v7 or 8 will be $ 299, and he who bought a v8 between 1 January and 30 April will be entitled to a free copy of v9. App Studio will not be included in the initial release, but pushed as free upgrade within 90 days after launch. So far, developers will need help from Quark into iPad publishing service to obtain a correctly formatted app.
